Sean Mannix is a dedicated law enforcement professional with over three decades of experience in public safety. He has held various leadership positions, including Assistant Chief of Police in Austin and Chief of Police in Cedar Park, Texas. Throughout his career, he has focused on improving policing strategies, providing advanced training opportunities for officers, and fostering strong relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. After retiring in 2020, he continued to serve the public as the Statewide Traffic Incident Management Coordinator for the Texas Department of Transportation.
Born in California as one of five siblings, Sean's passion for law enforcement was sparked early on by his father, who was also in the field. This influence led him to join the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve at 18, where he developed critical leadership skills and a solid work ethic. After completing his military service, he began his law enforcement journey in Alameda, California, at the age of 20, making him the youngest officer in the department. His early years were spent learning the foundations of police work, responding to various emergencies, and taking on different patrol duties.
1993 Sean moved to Austin, Texas, to further his career. Joining the Austin Police Department, he quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming Assistant Chief. He oversaw several divisions, improving crime reduction strategies and enhancing community engagement. His efforts included utilizing the COMPSTAT model, significantly reducing crime, and developing strong partnerships with federal agencies. His leadership in Austin laid the foundation for many of the department’s successes.
In 2013, Sean took on the role of Chief of Police in Cedar Park. He focused on officer training and community policing, emphasizing building trust and positive relationships with residents. He introduced de-escalation training, body-worn cameras, and wellness programs for officers, which earned the department national recognition. Cedar Park also saw a boost in community involvement under his guidance, with the department becoming a leader in Texas for participation in National Night Out.
After retiring from active duty in 2020, Sean remained committed to public service. He continues to serve on the board of Sigma Tactical Wellness, working to improve the health and well-being of first responders. He is also a supporter of Williamson County Crime Stoppers, contributing to efforts to solve crimes and enhance safety.
Outside of his professional life, Sean Mannix enjoys aviation, fishing, and spending time outdoors with his family. He and his wife, Eileen, have been married for many years and have four daughters. As he reflects on his career, Sean remains passionate about learning, whether through professional reading or personal interests, always seeking to stay engaged and sharp in his pursuits.
